Terms of Service

Pi House Smart Home Integration — operated by Cane Bay Computers.
Effective 2026-05-16.

These terms govern your use of the Pi House Smart Home Integration ("the Integration"), a personal home-automation bridge between Google Home / Google Assistant and devices in the operator's home. By linking the Integration to your Google account, you agree to these terms.

Description of the service

The Integration receives voice command intents from Google's Cloud-to-Cloud Smart Home service and translates them into device control commands within the operator's home. Devices currently controlled include thermostats, a security alarm, a vacuum, a television, Linux computers, video-game consoles, refrigerator door state monitoring, and Google Home / Nest speaker volume.

Eligible users

The Integration is operated for the personal, non-commercial use of the operator and their household. It is not a public service. If you have been granted access by the operator, your use is permitted only for the household and devices the operator chooses to share.

License

Cane Bay Computers grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Integration for the purpose described above. You may not reverse-engineer, redistribute, resell, or commercially exploit the Integration.

Acceptable use

No warranty

The Integration is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. The Integration is a hobby project; it may be unavailable, may behave unexpectedly, and may be modified or shut down at any time without notice.

Safety-critical devices

The Integration controls devices including a security alarm and HVAC thermostats. Do not rely on the Integration as your primary or only mechanism for safety-critical functions. Loss of internet, power, or service availability will render the Integration non-functional; always retain a working physical control path (the alarm keypad, the thermostat panel, the device's own remote, etc.).

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Cane Bay Computers shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, arising out of or in connection with your use of, or inability to use, the Integration — whether based on contract, tort (including negligence), strict liability, or any other legal theory, and whether or not Cane Bay Computers has been informed of the possibility of such damage. Cane Bay Computers' aggregate liability for all claims arising out of or relating to the Integration shall not exceed one hundred United States dollars (US$100).

Termination

You may terminate your use of the Integration at any time by unlinking it from the Google Home app (Settings → Linked services → Pi House → Unlink). Cane Bay Computers may modify, suspend, or terminate the Integration, or your access to it, at any time, with or without notice.

Changes to these terms

Material changes will be reflected in the "Effective" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Integration after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of South Carolina, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles.
